Professional Summary
I am an experienced Mechanical Engineer searching for a senior engineering position in a successful and growing company. My diverse background in semiconductor and large scale production industries, along with valuable experience dealing with vision based inspection platforms, will be great assets for your team.
Work Experience
Senior Mechanical Engineer
· Established relationship with European regulatory agency (TUV) to define testing protocol for product quality and safety certification.
· Collaborated with management, marketing, and industrial designers on redesign efforts for popular consumer elliptical (Q37). Worked with over-seas production manufactures to develop plastic injection molded parts and simplified weldments to realize a 10% cost reduction.
October 2005-September 2008 NewBio E Systems, Inc. Edina, MN
NewBio E Systems specializes in anaerobically converting solid and liquid residuals from food products and bio fuel into methane gas for energy use on-site.
Senior Mechanical Engineer
· Conceptualized, designed, and managed the build of NewBio's indoor 4,000 sq ft, mechanical test facility. The test facility was a mechanical replica of a 400,000 gallon anaerobic digester and was used to validate mechanism and process operations of a 60x volumetric increase from a pilot digester. Implemented rotary mechanical drive for NewBio's patented sand fluidization process to help NewBio realize a 30% decrease in digester operating expenses.
· Initiated a clutching design for a rotary mixing operation which eliminated timely and inconvenient field repairs.
· Used fluid mechanic techniques to increase fluid drainage flow rates by 25%, resulting in a favorable balance and increased gas production.
· Administrated NewBio’s CAD software and implemented a configurative approach to design, minimizing the time to the review process. Implemented networked license for FEA package, giving all users access to the software at a fraction of the cost.
July 2002-October 2005 DezTek, LLC Carver, MN
DezTek, LLC is a consulting firm focused on providing sound and affordable mechanical solutions to industry.
Mechanical Engineer
· Developed a multi axis positioning and clamping station for a manual circuit board rework machine, supporting boards rigidly within 0.020” flexure under 300°C temperatures.
· Assisted Andersen Corporation to develop solutions through new design, rework, and process information. Created precision cutting and measurement equipment that nearly eliminated manufacturing defects and provided quick quality checks at the work stations. Designed equipment for research and development that included a proprietary fabrication technique utilizing ultrasonic welding of small plastic components. Developed forming tools for shaping a fiber/epoxy composite window material to create unique shapes and arches in significantly less time and cost than tooling molds.
· Automated designs for a custom plastics manufacturer, Intek Plastics, Inc., to utilize LEAN manufacturing processes. Proposed and developed a precision linear belt stage with positional accuracy of 0.005” per 12 ft., which satisfied their 6-SIGMA requirements and allowed them to ship quality products that met their customer’s needs.
· Collaborated with Renewal by Andersen on designs and equipment that eliminated “chip-out” for wood, composite, and vinyl window components. This was accomplished via thermal-induced cutting to custom nesting, on end fabrication saws.
· Designed a hydraulic, transversing truss press used in the home construction industry. This equipment provided the capability to automate the stamping of 8”x10” steel plates into wood using dual 30 ton presses on a single gantry. Realized increased throughput of over 50%, and created a quieter and safer work environment.
· Developed a precision gantry router table for the Cabinet Making Industry to reduce cost and set-up time.
June 1999-July 2002 PPT Vision, Inc. Eden Prairie, MN
PPT Vision, Inc. designs and manufactures vision based inspection equipment for 2D and 3D high speed manufacturing applications.
Mechanical Engineer
· Executed new product automation design for the company’s vision platforms to handle hard drive suspension arms, micro BGA’s in tray form and solder bump chips in strip form.
· Supported and managed division’s manufacturing department by documenting assembly procedures and conducting quality checks on incoming inventory. Performed validation checks on linear stages used in assembly, through laser interferometry.
· Guided mechanical and manufacturing engineering interns and supplied design tasks and instruction for mechanical drafters.
· Worked with management team to implement divisional standards for manufacturing and certified inspection equipment for company ISO 9000 certification.
Summer Internship, 1997 & 1998 Aetrium Incorporated St. Paul, MN
Aetrium develops and integrates proprietary technologies into production-based test and handling systems used by the worldwide semiconductor and electronic component industry.
Design/Test Engineer
· Performed design changes on various products using a regimented ECO process.
· Wrote technical support documents for equipment and ran tests on equipment to ensure customer specifications were met. After testing, I performed upgrade installations for customers in Los Angeles and Phoenix.
