Tips For Making A Video Resume |
|
The video resume presentation -The ideal size for your video resume is at least 90 seconds and 2 minutes at most. -You have two options: get a friend to interview you or speak directly to the camera. Insure a good quality sound both for the person asking the questions and for yourself. If you’re using a webcam to film, put it on the monitor, in the center. -Keep the conversion natural. -Try speaking slowly and clearly. -Try not to look dour. Smile! -If possible, don’t make expressions that can distract the viewer. -Let the viewer know what kind of experience and skills you have, and they should be the same as the headers of the resume ( experience, computer knowledge, background in the field, education and languages). -Create the video so it fits the job you’re trying to apply to or at least to the industry that you’re in. -Create a few different video resumes, then watch them and choose the one that works best. -Prepare yourself like you would for a face to face interview. Get a suit for the video and get your look right. -When you make the video, don’t read notes. Memorize them and look at the camera. Lighting/Background/Sound -If you want a look that is professional, make the video while you’re in a room with a single color wall behind and plenty of natural light. If there is too much sun, make sure there is no shadow on your face. -Don’t use as background walls with posters or artwork that is distracting. -Make sure you close any music you might have running in the background. -If you don’t use a webcam, but a video camera, insure that the place where you’re sitting is well centered. -Make sure that you get your upper torso, shoulders and head on the camera. The Format Recommended For Video Resumes Start by telling them what’s your last and first name. Let them know what kind of education you have, both the university and the major. Let them know what special accomplishments you have. If you want a certain position, let the recruiter know why you want to work for that company in that position. If the video resume isn’t created for a certain position in the company ( when you do something more general, like sales), just let them know what kind of experience you have and what you can do. If you want jobs in different areas, make different video resumes. Next, let people know what qualifications you have and how you are right for the job. If you don’t want a specific job, just let them know what you can do. Whatever you say in the video, make sure it’s the same thing as in the written resume. Mention where you worked before and what special accomplishments you have. Specify any abilities that help you do your job (language, professional organization memberships, honors and computer programs you know how to use). Next, thank them for watching the video. If your resume isn’t published online, you can also specify your site, email and phone number. |
